The 2014 Mark in Maine Swimsuit Issue

03/03/2014

Organ Fantasy

Everyone knows it: Nothing goes better with swimsuits than organs…and nothing goes better with a fantasy than balloons…especially long, tubular balloons.

So dive on in, we know you’re excited, and enjoy this  “Organ Fantasy.”

Introducing the Mark in Maine 2014 Swimsuit Issue.

“Making of the Swimsuit Issue”

Mark in Maine Swimsuit Issue scouts travel year round in search of the most beautiful and exotic photo locations in the state.   This year they discovered Brewer, a quaint little hamlet on the Penobscot River.

Our cover photo was made on a golden winter day at the Brewer Goodwill.

With breathless strip mall and vacant lot views; the popular thrift store offered hidden pools of water and truck loads of sand and salt in its parking lot to frolic, flirt and photograph.

Our models loved the cozy changing rooms and our stylists discovered the perfect props hidden in the discount racks. Where else can you find open-toed, white, high-heel shoes for $4.98?

Scenery, glamor and seduction at Goodwill. Our 2014 Swimsuit Issue captures it all.

And speaking of our models, it was extremely difficult to pick a cover this year. We saw great cover shots from Jane Fonda, Barbara Streisand and Helen Reddy. But this wonderful image  just jumped out of a bin at us: a sexy smile, those playful eyes and a provocative pose on such a dreamy and  glamorous … floor.

Who is this mystery model?  Who is the photographer? Did Don Draper blow up all those balloons?

You’ll have to buy our upcoming “Making of….” DVD to find out.

“Outraged subscribers”

Of course, librarians all across the country have canceled their Mark in Maine subscriptions. And we’re bracing for a flood of angry comments from horrified parents, shocked web surfers and the United Balloon Association of America.

We love it. If it wasn’t for the outrage our Swimsuit Issue would never see the light of a computer… right?

So while almost everyone waits each year in fevered anticipation for our cover announcement, some party-poopers still ask: “What do swimsuits have to do with Mark in Maine?”

Well, in Maine the weather is warm enough for a swimsuit AT LEAST two months a year. Isn’t that a good reason to put a beautiful  woman on our cover?

Besides, if you look closely, our model isn’t even wearing a swimsuit.

And neither are the Sports Illustrated models.

It’s all just an “Organ Fantasy.”
