Backroad Country Churches of Maine #3

I had to stop for this one.

Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Point is always a great spot to view a rolling thunder wave show. It also delivers fiery sunsets if you pick the right night.

Jen and I were driving friends Jake and Denise out to Schoodic last month as the sun started going down. The light turned a golden-yellow and the sky clashed in red, grey and bright blue.

We definitely picked the right night.

But would we make it to the point in day light?

Our car twisted and turned through the hills and valleys of Route 186 and suddenly came across the small bay side village of Gouldsboro….and there it was.

A small churches bathed in the twilight.

“Should I stop?” asked Jen.

“Yes, yes, yes,” I said. “You can’t pass this up.”

I fired off 10 frames like the building was on fire and jumped back in the car.

“We’re in a race against the sun,” I said.

We were just 10 minutes from Schoodic Point.

We still had 20 minutes of light.
